The Alienist (2018)Edit
- Main article: The Alienist
The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896 when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped New York City. Newly appointed top cop Theodore Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist – aka alienist – and newspaper illustrator John Moore to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Miss Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.
I Am the Night (2019)Edit
- Main article: I Am the Night
Inspired by true events, I Am the Night tells the incredible story of Fauna Hodel, a teenage girl given away at birth, growing up outside of Reno, Nevada. Fauna had always lived with her contradictions and her mysterious origins, until she makes a discovery that leads her to question everything. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets of her past, she meets a ruined reporter, haunted by the case that undid him. Together they follow a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Los Angeles gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel, a man involved in some of Hollywood’s darkest debauchery, and possibly, its most infamous unsolved crime.
The Angel of Darkness (TBA)Edit
- Main article: The Angel of Darkness
“The Angel of Darkness” is being billed by TNT as a sequel, and not as a second season of “The Alienist.” It is being produced by Paramount Television and Turner’s Studio T. Eric Roth, Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin and Cary Fukunaga will serve as executive producers. “The Alienist” followed Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning’s characters as they investigate a series of murders in 19th century New York.
On September 22, 2016, Deadline reported that Jakob Verbruggen will be replacing Cary Fukunaga as director for The Alienist TV series, set to air on TNT. It has also been revealed that the shooting location has moved again–this time, from New York to Budapest–with filming scheduled to begin in early 2017.
On July 2nd, 2018, TNT Drama revealed their interest in well-crafted suspense as "the ultimate form of compelling drama." On the official Twitter account, TNT Drama was pleased to announce that The Alienist was the first limited series in their new anthology, the TNT Suspense Collection.
The second entry, titled "I Am the Night", is expected to premiere January 2019. Starring Chris Pine and executive-produced by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, the six-episode series tells the incredible story of Fauna Hodel, investigating the sinister secrets of her past. Sam Sheridan, author of A Fighter’s Heart and The Disaster Diaries, wrote five of the six episodes, while Carl Franklin (Mindhunter) directed two episodes.
